Films with Amnesia

50 First Dates (2004)

50 first dates is about a man who meets woman, only to find out later she has short term memory, he doesn’t care because every time they meet the two fall in love again and again. Until finally, she remembers him, this is portrayed through her paintings.

The movie was very emotional, it evokes a feeling of sympathy for Adam Sanders because of the fact that she doesn’t remember as well as uplifting qualities on the comedic side of the movie such as the moment she finds him in her bed and she doesn’t know who he is.

This is a good film, I like the whole concept and I think that watching it has given an insight on how short memory loss works and has benefited me because it has made it a bit clearer on what type of memory loss my main character will have.

Ghajini (2008)

The movie Ghajini is a great movie which I had the pleasure of watching, I think the main character is an amazing actor (Aamir Khan) because his acting was so amazing it made you believe in the movie. Some elements of the movie is similar to the movie Memento, however, this movie is a Bollywood movie which involved choreographed dance and singing.

I really enjoyed watching the different scenes that involved musical numbers because it made you smile and kept me engaged plus it lightened the mood so that not everything was dark and serious. After watching this film, I think it has broaden my way of thinking. Even though it is a drama not every part has to be serious, it’s a thought that I will consider when it comes to expanding my concept.

Finding Nemo (2003)

Even though, Finding Nemo wasn’t based on amnesia, it did have some elements of memory loss in it. This was portrayed through Dory who is a regal blue tang fish, she displays the symptoms of someone who has short term memory loss. I like her because even though she had short term memory loss she still was a very nice fish, optimistic and was willing to help for Nemo’s dad. This has helped me a bit with my amnesia research however, this character has short term memory loss when my character will be having long-term memory loss. On the other hand, it has clarified what type of memory loss I’m going to be basing my pilot episode around.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was a fantastic film to watch, they use an experiment so that they develop long term memory loss that can not be recovered. It is about, two people who fall in love with each other, then want to forget they ever met each other because of the arguing and problems that occur in their relationship. So they the test dummies to the scientists experiment but as they forget each other they find that spark that they had in the first place. This movie evoked so much sympathy and knowledge that may help people when dealing with a certain type of relationship. The film delivers a message to the audience which what makes the movie so engaging and powerful. I don’t know how I will incorporate some the films idea into my project but I have learnt quite a bit more about memory loss and how they regret receiving the treatment.

The Vow (2012)

The Vow is about two people (Leo and Paige) are madly in love get into a car accident, Paige comes out of the accident suffering from severe memory loss (partial long term memory loss) she can not remember Leo (her husband) he tries to recreate that love they once had despite complication they face throughout the movie.

Firstly, I think that The Vow is an impeccable movie, I get love watching it because of the actors chosen to play each character, their acting was amazing especially Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams (the lead characters of the movie).

Secondly, I like how Paige develops Amnesia, it starts off with a beautiful date night with Leo and Paige, which escalates  into the two getting hit by a truck. Even though, it is the played out person gets hit by car (car crash) I like the way she flies through the car window and how they slowed it down it think that was unique. Additionally, I like how they used a voiceover to make it more devastating maybe I could do something similar in my episode, something that is impacting.

I think it is an amazing love story between two individual, showing their back story as well as the present. For a man’s heart be rip out like that is heartbreaking, this makes it more emotional and engaging which is good. Plus, not only does the movie take the two characters on an emotional roller coaster, it also takes the audience on an emotional roller coaster (I cried watching this movie that how good it is). I enjoyed the concept of this film, it took me on a journey and after watching it I think it has helped me immensely because has given me a few idea in case I want to add romance in my episode as well as other elements.

Santa Who? (2000)

Santa who? is a Christmas movie, that sends out a message. A scene in this movie shows the police using hypnosis to try and obtain Nick’s memories, one of the many techniques used to recover memory loss as well as informing the audience on what they need to do to recover his memory, which is finding something familiar. This film shows the audience the different ways they had tried when trying to recover Santa Claus’s memory. I like how he develops amnesia, the way he falls out of the sky and hits his head, I don’t think I’ve any thing like it. The found this movie to be very engaging and I was smile throughout.

The Christmas spirit keeps you interested as well as finding out if Santa ever does regain his memory which he does. Furthermore, I enjoy movies that have a message behind it and I think that after watching this movie I found it to be insightful. I may not have an idea on how I could incorporate some of the traits in this movie however, it is still good to watch movies based around the theme Amnesia, it gives me more of an understanding.

Conclusion:

All of these movies have been helpful because of the variety of scenarios that present Amnesia (my theme). After watching these movies I feel that they will all influence my TV pilot somewhere or another, if not then it will benefit me in the future and I think it has broaden my knowledge on Amnesia in films well as other pieces that are based around it which is amazing.
