Celtx Setup

Celtx is used when creating scripts for plays, film, and anything that needs to be scripted, semi scripted etc.

If you want to use it home, you can either click Get free online Scriptwriting or you can click Start Now!
Then put your current email and setting a password for yourself that is hard for other people, however you can remember it and (It saves having to reset your password) this enables to create your account.

Once you have put your current email and have make your password, you should receive a confirmation email for the Celtx Website telling you to activate your account.

You can share the Celtx website to social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and  Pinterest.

When you have clicked that confirmation link, you can add your name and if you want to put your picture its optional. Then click the option that suits you and complete the process. When you’ve  done that you start to use the software sign in, the signing in process is shown in this guide.

Once you open up the software, the image above will appear, showing different options such as Film, Audio-Visual, Theatre, Audio Play, StoryBoard, Comic Book and Novel. It also presents you with the recent projects that you have done, making it easier for you to access.

To create a New Project go to File and Scroll down to New Project. The same goes to Open Project, if you have your script or storyboard etc on a USB or Hard drive you can open it.

This is the Tool Bar, it has all the tools needed for you to create a script.

Scene Heading is used to name a scene fro example Scene 1, using this tool helps you because if there were no scene heading people may or most likely will get confused. Because they won’t know what scene they are doing so, you should always use it.

The Character tool is used to show who speaking next, also to brief the actor/actress who is assign that specific character when they should speak or do something. The Character name’s are always in CAPITALS, so the character tool does that automatically for you.

The Dialog tool is used to inform the actors/actresses what to say to a certain line point in a scene throughout the film. For instance underneath the character’s name would be the Dialog ‘ Every time you…’.

The Parenthetical tool is used to inform the actor/actresses on how to say a line, for example (Angrily) would be Parenthetical.

The Transition is used to update the person or people editing the footage afterwards how to move from one footage to another for example the traditional ‘CUT TO:’or ‘FADE IN:’

The Shot tool is used to tell the Cameraman or Camera Team, how to film a specific scene or shot. This is good because they know what to do before hand and the production runs smoothly. Furthermore, when you type in the first one or two letters of the shot a shortcut pops up (this is shown on the right), then you can click one of them if it appears on screen.

The Text tool is used to show the editing team when to add text to the video.

You use Services if you have done some more of your script or storyboard etc. However, you have done it on the computer at home or somewhere and you want load it up and continue, using the software. Once you have clicked it then all you have to do is sign in, if you have an account already. But if you don’t you can create one.

On the Tool Bar there are different tools. Here are a few:

This icon shown above is used to undo mistakes or errors that you have done.

The Symbol b is used to make your writing Bold. This can be used for Titles or Characters.

The symbol/tool i is called italics. This tool is used for names.

The symbol u with a line under it is used to Underline. This is used for titles.

The Symbols/Tools that you see above are your Cut, Copy & Paste. This Scissors tool which is the Cut can be used to delete things that you don’t want. The copy tool is used to Copy different things that you may want to put somewhere else. The symbol that looks like a clipboard is the Paste tool is to paste images and sentences.

The icon with a capital a and a tick beside it Screen Shot 2014-10-22 at 15.39.13, is used to check for any spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes, so you can use it if you are not sure about certain words or sentences.

is used to replace or find words that may not like or lie but another word so better in a different area of the product (film).

The lock icon Screen Shot 2014-10-22 at 15.42.43 is used prevent you from clic any of the other tool by accident. Also, when have finish the whole script  you can lock it so that it is safe.

The symbol that looks like a camera is called the Media Tool is used to add images to your script.

This tool is located on the right hand side of the screen and you can use it to add notes, which will benefit you and your production team, could be about changes if you need to add or remove a scene etc. The 3 by 3 colourful square icon is used to choose a colour of your notes( if you want to organises them) making your notes colour coded.

This is your title page, used as a cover and to show readers what your screenplay (film) is called and shows who the author is, which is you or if in a group its your writer. Then you can add what it is based on for example it could be based on a real life story or a specific genre such as Horror, Comedy. it could be even be based on a book.
