Primary Research – Infatuation

This page shows you people’s opinions on Infatuation. I came up with a few questions to ask people so that it will help me develop ideas linked to my theme.

Questions for the Interview

  1. What is your definition of ‘Infatuation’?
  2. Have you ever been infatuated with anything?
  3. How long would you spend on this infatuation?

Alternative questions

  1. If that passion/infatuation you have wasn’t there anymore, how would you feel?

The interview is on ‘Infatuation’.

Interview 1: Ali

I acknowledge his definition ‘when you really like something and can’t think of anything else’, I think that is a great way of describing infatuation. I found Ali’s response very interesting because he described infatuation from an academic perspective. I think his PhD was his infatuation because he didn’t have a social life and he spent the majority of his time working on it. I agree with Ali’s statement about it’s not an internal infatuation such as having feelings for someone because it is an academic passion of his degree. Then again, I’m leaning towards the fact that it may be passion rather than infatuation because, I think that everybody strives to achieve their dreams therefore its a drive to succeed. His response has helped me a bit more with what infatuation is and how I could use it for my project.

Interview 2: Isaiah

I think that I could use some of the information that Isaiah has provided in my project. I asked Isaiah what infatuation means to him, however, he didn’t know what it meant so I had to explain to him instead however, he answered the other questions present. Isaiah says that he is infatuated with basketball. In my opinion, 4 hours of basketball is excessive but to him it is normal. However, I don’t think he is infatuated with basketball because basketball is a passion that he has and wants to pursue, so he is going to spend that amount of time on it. He did mention an aspect that could be linked to infatuation which is depression. After doing some secondary research on infatuation I had found symptoms that may include depression, simply because the person or a thing is not there anymore. I enjoyed his response because it was very useful, clarifying information that I have about infatuation and making me question myself more about what I understand already.

Interview 3: Nathan

I think that Nathan’s definition on infatuation was really detailed which was beneficial for me because I can record and compare his response, I think that it is similar to the definitions that I have researched and knowledge that I obtain, which is that infatuation consumes you and that it is based on feeling (emotion). It also makes me think more about infatuation more and how I could portray it. I like how he said that infatuation could be short term or long term because I think that not everyone is infatuated with something or someone for short periods of time. I think that in some cases it goes on for longer, it could go on for years. Nathan hasn’t been infatuated with anything but he does have a passion for film, what clarified it for me is that if the film industry ceased to exist than it would from another passion such as cooking. I really like this response because it is different compared to the other response’s that were given.

Interview 4: Safia and Sonia

I agree with some of the comments in this video, for example; how infatuation is connected to obsession, I think that it is linked because of the research that I have been doing on infatuation. Furthermore, I think that the majority of people would like to sleep in bed all day however, I think that is more of a luxury than an infatuation. I think that if you are emotionally attached to it then maybe you could be infatuated however I have my doubts. Safia and Sonia’s response was great, it has helped me because it has me pondering about questions I should be asking myself about this theme and my idea.

Interview 5: Tarcan

Tarcan was infatuated with a lot of things but to generalise it, it would be media entertainment and I think that everyone is a little obsessed with media entertainment. I liked that he treated it as if it was his family member as he gives it his full attention and that he had nothing better to do other than watching TV. I could probably use this information to my advantage by coming up with a comedic story line for example; where the main character personifies his electrical equipment for instance, his laptop would be his baby and the TV would be his wife etc. His response has got my brain reflecting on the definition and what ideas I could do and come up.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I think that there were all valid opinions and I could use some of the knowledge I have gained for my project, for example, Nathan’s opinion on infatuation and how it could make you feel. Most of the definitions about infatuation were similar and each person’s infatuation would take up a lot of the person’s day. However, I have realised that nobody actually mentioned about if they were ever infatuated with a person but they had just diverted to discussing an item or a hobby/passion. No one talked about a girl or boy they’ve fancied which is very interesting because I might want to associate my project towards a person’s heightened emotion towards another person. On the other hand, I could use it in my project and I think each response made me think more and more about my concept and understand infatuation more as well.
