What is Adobe after effects?
Adobe After Effects is a software used when doing motion graphics and creating visual effects. Adobe After Effects is used to be creative creating complex or simple videos, texts, and more.
This will come up after you have clicked the shortcut
New composition
This is used to start your project, being able to set the composition settings, which also helps you start creating your composition (project).
Open Project
It is used to open any previous compositions that you have done or are working on,using the current computer or maybe a composition that you have placed onto a USB.
Recent Project
On the left hand side of the picture shows the Recent Projects that you may have done and want to carry on doing, making it easier to access your project.
Pre-set
There are many different presets such as 1080p, 720p etc. To make the resolution 1080p, you have to make sure you have un-ticked the lock aspect ratio and type in 1920 as the width and 1080 as the height. After that you just have to click OK.
Effects & Presets
The Effects & Presets tools are located on ……. There different effects for example Keying, which is used for Green Screening.
In the picture shown above is the Composition window, it is used to see what you created or imported, it is basically a preview window.
This is the project window, where all the imported files are located.
This is a tool bar containing different elements of the software.
The first tool that looks like a picture on top video is a shortcut, used to import photos and videos.
Next to the import is a folder , which is a shortcut for creating new folders and it is used to add folders into the project
There’s also a bin tool to get rid of anything that you do not like.
This shortcut is used to match the resolution of the footage that you have import to the resolution that you have set up on the software.
This is a preview tool and it is used to play your composition properly because your composition may be blurry when you watch it back on the Composition window. However, if you click the play button a wait a bit it will play in the desired resolution.
This is a tool bar and it contains a lot of functions.

The tool that looks like an eye is used to make a video or image that you added visible or invisible.
The tool next to it is used to mute the audio of a video of just audio that you have imported.
There’s a symbol/tool that looks like a lock and that is used so you don’t accident edit a composition, making it easier to complete your composition fully.

The first tool is used to hide layers on the timeline.
The fourth tool that has FX on it is used to add Effect, which are on the software, when developing your composition.
The final tool, which is the eight tool,looks like a box and is used to be able to create a 3D effects on that layer, when making a composition.
How to Import Media
Go to the tool bar (located at the top of the screen) and click File.
Then scroll down to Import and click File.
How to Export media
Do’s and Don’ts
Do
- Make sure your composition is saved, every time you change a certain element.
- When rending make sure always change the format options to H.264 after clicking QuickTime, because it gives your video the best quality.
Don’t
- Rush and take your time because you might make mistakes
Health and Safety
- Make your work has been backed up onto preferably a hard drive or a usb just case your computer crashes.
- Don’t drink fizzy/carbonated drinks next to your computer.
