Casting Research

I really like this website because the method is different to what I did for my final major project last year (unit 8). I like the way the casting notice is laid out and I think that it would be beneficial to do it this because it is well organised and has a great structure. I could definitely use some of the information I have just acquired for this current project and projects in the future.

The video shown on this website was very useful for me this is due to the breakdown of what to do. The casting notice is quite similar to the previous website above however, they gave me some websites to look at such as casting frontier and actors access. Some of the information in this video I already knew such as the amount of the people in the room when people are auditioning and using a piece of the script to audition with. I have learnt more about casting notices and using Edexcel to schedule appointments for the actors auditions along with having a sign in sheet so this website did help me in that aspect.

I think that Wikihow is a great website because it clarifies previously read information along with new advice, for example, how to make an audition poster that tells people when to come and where. I did one last year for unit 8 however, I didn’t write the date and time I just told them. Maybe I could do this for this project, it is something to think about. Also, it clarifies on what to have such as bringing the script for the actor to audition with and equipment e.g. microphones.

I think that this website has some valid points, for instance, not to rush through the audition and spend time with the actors because an actor with a range of ability will make a great film and that I should find a big location for the actors to audition in. I did this last year for unit 8 and 6 so I understand the actors need space to act and wait for their time to audition. I am going to be using the studio in 221 to hold auditions. Ina addition to that, how to find actors and talking to the drama department in college which I will do. I think that this website is valuable to the progression of my project because it had good tips.

I could use most of these 6 tips, for example, knowing the script well, I think would be really easy for me because I came up with the idea and write the script myself so I know it inside and out. Additionally, casting actors who closely resemble the character in the movie. I have people in mind who would be a great asset to my movie and who will play the role to their best ability as well as suit the character.

Conclusion

Looking at these websites has been helped to my project because made the casting much clearer. Even though I have done casting in projects that I have done previously, it is always good to look it up to refresh my knowledge on it. On top that, I have learnt a few things about casting that I didn’t know before. I know that I have done auditions and casting in Unit 8 and Unit 6. However, it is always good to check other sources to make sure that my technique is okay and gain new pieces of knowledge, which I have.

Example of my casting notice:

Casting notice-page-001

This is my version of a casting notice, it will advertise my project to anyone who sees it and wants to audition and take part. I might use this for my project if I decide to do auditions, if not, I think that this new information will benefit me in future production.
