Biblical stories and Quotes on Revenge

Biblical Stories

Biblical revenge tries to portray that everybody given the circumstances and situation can be vengeful and it shows you the repercussions of their wrong doings.

Genesis 34:25

This tells a story of how Jacob and his sons decided to avenge the rape of Dinah.

I like word avenge because the majority of the justice is normally served when someone is avenged. Rape is a serious matter and I feel that I could come up with a story that has a serious point and message that would resonate with my audience. I will consider this when coming up with ideas.

Judges 15:7, 16:28:30

This story implements revenge as Sampson avenged the death of his wife and as the Philistines gouged out his eyes, he asked god to give him the strength so to pull down two pillars which when given to him allowed him to kill many of them before being killed himself.

I think that this a great biblical story because it shows revenge in a heroic way like Superman or Hercules. I think that this concept would be suitable if I decide to make a superheroes movie for my final major project. I like the verse of bible and it was beneficial to read.

Samuel 13:23:29

This is about Amnon who is the Brother of Taman. He desired her son he forced himself upon her. Her other sibling Absalom looked after her and thereafter hated his older brother for what he had done. Their father David would not punish Amnon as he was the first-born so therefore, Absalom’s servants killed him instead.

I think that this biblical story is deep, however, it is based on revenge and understand in some cases authoritative figures do not serve justice so you have to deal with the situation your own way and that may not be right in some people’s eyes it may be justifiable in other people eyes. It raises some question about my own ideas, for example, would people like or dislike the characters I will develop.

Conclusion

All of these biblical stories are useful to me because the bible portrays revenge as taking action for a bigger cause and heroic way of seeking revenge on someone. I like these stories and think that they will assist me in the idea process of my project as well as broadening my opinions and knowledge on revenge.

Quotes on Revenge

Quotes used in revenge terms give the audience the idea that a character has just delivered in their mind the revenge they have strived for. Here are some examples:

‘Revenge is a dish best served cold’

‘Revenge’ itself normally portrays sadness and is of an aggressive nature that is based on one person’s action towards another person. The word ‘dish’ implies something that someone has been waiting and have been cravings for, as food is vital to a human’s life. So when revenge is described to be a ‘dish’ it implies that this individual defiantly needs this revenge to happen to them, it’s a must. So much so that the only way to deliver this treatment is to serve it cold because the cold suggests inflicted pain that is beyond the standard amount of pain, which is remorseless and shows no mercy.

‘How the tables have turned’

The word ‘ how’ is stated to create a sense of irony that the other person is experiencing pain when they first inflicted it, ‘tables turned’ is obviously referring to fortunes changing here the one experiencing the revenge and the pain inflicted is more in favour of the vengeful individual than the former person who was inflicted.

‘The shoes is on the other foot’

The word ‘shoes’ links to the misfortune of the person wearing it, for instance, in regards to revenge, a murderer could be killed in the exact same way as the ‘other’ person. For example, in the film a

‘Karma is a bitch’

Karma refers to ‘what goes around comes around’ which means if you do something nice for someone, someone will do something nice for you and applies the same to negativity as well. The word ‘is’ implies that the karma is certain and can’t be averted and is always going to exact revenge. Bitch is a reference to a very negative result and this quote/phrase is used often by someone who feels no sympathy fo a person because the person did something bad and no sense of remorse. This indicates that the vengeful individual doesn’t care for the other person’s downfall at all.

Conclusion

These quotes allow me to explore instances in which each particular phrase could be applied to the antagonist or protagonist which would be beneficial towards the progression of my film. I think these quotes evoke the feeling of satisfaction and joy in a person and I think it allows a person to move on valiantly and take what is owed which is revenge. I could use this information to influence aspects of the film I create.
