Evaluation

I have enjoyed doing this Unit because I feel that it has helped me that little bit in finding out my style is or will be so I’m glad I did this project. The contextual essay was very difficult to do but, I think that I have done it to the best of my ability. Another positive is that I feel that I had mirrored my chosen cinematographer Emmanuel Chivo Lubezki very well. Using the different filming techniques to my advantage, I think really showed in my final product. I thought the actors were great, professional; they knew when to make jokes and be serious. Also, it was very fun to film, the actors were very stiff at first but, as the filming progressed they felt comfortable.

I think that my script was very good and after getting feedback from my peers clarified that. I appreciate the fact that they liked the Portuguese in it because it was done on purpose. Emmanuel Lubezki has worked on projects that involve another language, for example, Hora Marcada which, was in Spanish and To the wonder that was in French. Plus, I felt that it was strong so, I got Carla to translate it for me. Listening to Carla translating it was very interesting, it makes me wish that I learned another language. The feedback on my script was great I liked that Aline said there was some originality to my storyline/script. Also, I thought that the feedback on the idea was beneficial because it made me think more about what I was aiming for as I develop the script/story for my final piece.

I really enjoyed developing the script for my film because, it was done using a previous idea that I had for a short film so, using it was felt great. In addition to that, the continuation of that idea came out naturally and wasn’t forced. Furthermore, like Jacob said I think people can relate to the situation that I had based my film around.

Even though there are a lot of positive aspects of this project, there were also some negatives. For instance, unreliable actors; I was so frustrated when one of the actors, who I thought was a reliable friend did not tell me that he wasn’t going to make on the day that we needed to film. He had to run around, trying to find another actor. It was an aggravating experience because when I do projects the first actor I chose are a disappointment so I have to improvise. However, it is a learning experience because it shows my who is reliable so I don’t make the same mistake in the future. Plus, I am kind of glad that he didn’t come because Bola was a much better actor.

I had to change a two scenes that were originally supposed to be filmed. I have no regrets about the final outcome of my final product however, I think that those scenes missed would have made it a bit better. I did want to film it how it was scripted originally rather than cut scenes. But, I like that I am an open-minded individual, finding alternatives and I feel that I have developed that trait more doing this project. It has also, taught me a bit more on the importance of sound because my sound was quite bad. The sound was bad due to the scenes not being recorded with a shotgun microphone and windshield. I have learned from this error. On the other hand, I did feel that the final product was about the visual aspect rather than sound. This is due to my exploration of cinematographer by Emmanuel Lubezki.

What I could improve next time or in future projects is my sound which, I now have a microphone to use when filming along with knowing actors who are reliable and finally choosing copyright free music because then my video wouldn’t be monetised by a company and take profit from my movie. Overall, I am really happy with the outcome of my final product however, I still felt that it could have been better.
