Idea Development

For this unit, I have to do a short film based on the cinematographer that I had chosen, Emmanuel Lubezki. I thought of doing a movie that presents his cinematography techniques.

The film is about A couple who get into an argument and are feeling bad about that argument. These feelings of remorse, trigger memories in their relationship. Only one idea came to mind when doing this project.

Feedback

1. I think that concept is good. It sounds a bit clique but that is because it’s a brief summary. It all depends on how you develop it. Great overall.– Kevin

2. Personally, I’m not really into smooshy romances but, I really like the concept of this short film.– Chloe

3. I really like the concept because it sounds good. Plus, I think people will relate to it, depending on how you do it.– Hung

All of the feedback given was positive. They make me question a lot of things that I need to do when developing it.The feedback was very useful.

Script Development

The script that I used to start writing my short film was a previous idea that I had wanted to do. I used it for this project because I think that it will show off Emmanuel Lubezki’s style better when I start to film it.

I Love You ❤

First Draft

I love you - first draft - Page 1

This is the first draft of my script I Love You. I copied over all of the scripts and put it into Celtx, so I could get started. I didn’t have character names yet but that was okay because they weren’t necessary at this point. It was more about the dialogue, location, and action.

Second Draft

I love you - first draft - Page 1

Once I got started I continue the story, adding another scene (a flashback scene), this was actually easy to do. This is because I just imagined what I would want in a meetup and would want if I had a boyfriend.

Third Draft

I love you - first draft - Page 1

By this point, I named my female main character Ana, instead of Girl and added specific location along with more dialogue. I still hadn’t thought of the guy’s name but then, Carla (my female actress/friend) suggested Dylan and I liked it. Also, I reduced the amount of swearing I added because, she said it was too much, which it was.

Final Draft

I love you - first draft - Page 1

This is the final draft that I did of my script I love you <3. This is the script I’m using to film my short film. I think that it is really good and will look good when filmed. It was so much fun to write. I made sure that I had corrected any mistakes, such as spelling errors, punctuation etc.

Feedback

1. Great story, like the idea of the regular flashbacks and how it does not end with them getting back together, it makes things less stereotypical. – Aline

Aline’s feedback is positive, which is always a good sign. I like how she said the story doesn’t end stereotypically with the guy ending with the girl because that is what I was going for. When writing the script, I felt that not every love story has to have a happy ending. Even though, most of the time it is traditional like that in movies. Especially, when both the participants are alive and well. So, I feel more confidence about my script.
