Theme Essay on Infatuation and Revenge

In this essay, I am going to be discussing the theme that I have chosen for my project and describing the research that was required in order for my movie to be accurate and to relate more to the audience whom I am trying to attract. There are several themes that have come up with, such as imagination, peace, infatuation and much more.

The theme is very important as it sets the tone for the story and to allow the audience watching to understand the film’s context.  It is pivotal (though not always necessary) to have more than one theme, and in this case two themes were used to show our audience the both of the main characters  perspectives , While several themes may give the audience too much to try and keep up with, thus our audience inevitably  failing to understand the true message behind this production. Another way of getting my theme across is by using different camera angles during my project to show the emotions of the characters, thereby making my project more intense and exciting for my audience and allowing them to express the required emotions at specific parts of the movie.

My overall goal is to create a move that reflects on some of the negative expects that men, women, and some of us in our teens can all relate two. One idea could be when a person tries to pursue the opposite sex and is rejected by them.  For the most part, this can be embarrassing , and some people may not know how to handle this, thus lowering one’s confidence. I want people to watch my film and be entertained through excitement and intensity but also cause my movie to have an effective influence on the audience watching and to bring to their awareness certain aspects of their lives which they might overlook. I also want to make my project challenging as it will allow my creative and inventive skills to grow and make me a better and effective filmmaker.

When it came to generating a theme there were several ideas that was thought of for my project each had advantages and disadvantages this caused me to research each theme before choosing such as:

Infatuation is a good theme to choose as it would be a challenge as I have not worked in that area before so I would be able to explore this theme vastly and would cause and interesting discussion when approaching this topic, however, the information might not be accurate causing the film to be stereotypical.

Another theme to be considered is revenge, as it may engage the audience on a subconscious level of awareness allowing the audience to feel the emotion of satisfaction at the end of the movie which is dependent on the project I choose to do. However, revenge is sometimes the villain’s motivation for their story and it may come across as boring and not entertaining. A crime theme would be an advantage to my project as I can add several characters with sub-themes such as comedy, romance and also this could cause relation to the audience because of a specific situation they or someone they know might be going through. However, one of the biggest problems of doing crime theme is the time frame would be too long and too many props would be needed. Culture themes allow a variety in the theme and it gives the audience the chance for them to learn or learn more about their culture allowing a wide based knowledge of ethnicity causing more interracial communication. However, it may offend people if the depiction of the culture may show a negative light thereby causing controversy.

A motivational theme gives the audience insight on why the character is doing what they are doing, which may inspire the audience who are watching allowing the context to have meaning with the audience find it agree or disagree. The story may be cliché thereby boring the audience allowing the audience to give negative feedback due to this fact and that would not be good. The themes I have chosen to express in my project is revenge and infatuation the reason being is, that both themes go hand in hand as infatuation means to be obsessed with a person but with the feelings not being reciprocated which may cause an individual to pursue revenge because of this rejection.

Infatuation

One definition of infatuation is that ‘Infatuaion is the chemical phase of love. Sometimes it is called passionate love, as opposed to companionate love (Hatfield & Walster, 1978). Sometimes it follows a long friendship, sometimes it happens at first sight. It is distinct from both friendship and long-term love.’ with this definition, this could allow me to retrieve more information on chosen theme. Part of my research was to look up infatuation in films, the movies I choose to look up allow me to reach the conclusion that infatuation is expressed through such factors such as camera work and editing that allowed me to gain enjoy the theme of the movie.

Another part of my research was infatuation through music, the music I looked at displayed their feelings of infatuation is through lyrics and music video. Researching and analysing these songs has broadened my knowledge I think that since I that analysing these songs have backed up my previous research. Research indicated that there were several types of infatuation; the first type was referred to as an individual getting carried away without insight or evaluative judgement which is caused by blind desire. While the second type of infatuation refers to a person is evaluation which may be sound although the love or desire is unaffected by it. Lastly, the third type refers to a person who shows bad judgement and misinterpretation due to ignorance or recklessness regardless of their desires.

Revenge

One of the definitions on revenge that I found using the learners dictionary says that revenge is ‘the act of doing something to hurt someone because that person did something that hurt you.’

When it came to revenge in films, I was able to research several movies I looked up films such as Batman; the dark knight, The hunger games and from my research I have found that they display several emotions from my audiences such as sadness, anger and other emotions causing the film to evoke different feelings from the actors compelling the audience to pay attention as the reason for the character taking their revenge might cause them to get lost when watching further into the film. To further attempt to keep the audience engaged, flashback scenes will be used to re-emphasize crucial moments leading up the movie’s climactic end. Another aspect of my research was revenge in music, the research allowed me to understand that several songs were used to express an individual’s feeling. There was a lot of revenge theme music that has been played over several years, they are able to portray these songs through expressive music videos and cinematic which excite and keeps the audience interested. Inputting vengeful music in my movie will give the concept that there was a wrong doing and the audience along with the character knows so and thereby, creating more excitement as the audience’s mood will change due to the type of music that will be playing.

Conclusion

In conclusion I have decided to base my project around the themes of infatuation and revenge allowing this film to give me a challenge and to allow me to do more research on these to particular themes thereby furthering my knowledge in which I will, in turn, provide my audience with a more accurate film allowing for entertainment and interest.

Revenge is an interesting theme as it cause me to be more creative as there are several ways people decide to take revenge to achieve their justice thereby, allowing me to view more aspects of this theme and implementing them in my own movie coming up with my own idea of how a person would take revenge on a person the feel has done them wrong. Infatuation is another good theme as obsession is a very deep and complicated emotion to express, therefore, giving me a challenge as the research will need to be vast and substantial allowing the audience to gain this concept as my project progresses further into development.

Furthermore, while I have chosen to use both revenge and infatuation as the main themes, I also want my audience to understand that infatuation is not limited to one action. While there are positive aspects to infatuation, where one can be infatuated over something they feel that they cannot live without, as time passes, they’re more equip in handling their emotions.  Infatuation can be seen in several untraditional forms, e.g a choice of lifestyle that may be detrimental to one’s health, or where a gamers perception of reality is misconstrued due to the excessive amount of time one has spent on video games.Integrating these two themes creates the perfect platform to develop a storyline involving juvenile decisions, impulsive behaviour and ignorance. All behaviours we can relate to.
