Final Major Project and The Process

Rough edit

Feedback on the rough edit:

1. I think that the film is alright so far, it is interesting I was engaged, some parts were scary. – Deng

2. I think that this movie had an interesting plot twist. I thought the shots were good. – Layken

3. I think that there is a lot of wind, sounds in the background and it is kind of distracting. – Moses

Conclusion

After receiving feedback the majority of it was positive however, there was one negative. I sort of agree with Moses, I can see how it could be distracting to the viewer because I felt a bit distracted because of the hissing and distortion and I will be replacing the sound, I will be using the sound that I recorded with the zoom recorder for the whole of the film because all of the audio that was played in this rough edit was from the internal microphone of my canon camera. I’m happy that the liked it visually (camerawork) and enjoyed the concept of the film.

Final Product

Feedback on my final major project film:

1. I personally thought that the film was a great way to show infatuation and really managed to use the periscope app to develop the story in the beginning, from what I can tell the acting was quite good, considering most of them aren’t actors and the cinematography was consistent and clean, I  found enjoyment throughout watching the film. – Karim

2. Good Good :3 I think some shots were professional, for example at the start, the conversations looked natural and fluid. Try to do more over-shoulder shots during conversations and about 1 establishing shot for the conversation bits. Everything else is great, and nice colour grading too. – Jerry

3. The beginning was gripping but I didn’t like the music that was playing when he stabbed her, I thought the “he’s gonna stab her” would be less obvious without it because the change in music lets you know something is happening. I liked the rest of it though but I thought some of the lines seemed a bit…old fashioned, I guess, they didn’t have dialects of their own. E.g. The word “release” instead of “let you go”. I laughed really hard at the “now you have to learn how to cook” bit. – Chloe

4. Bad things: the storyline was good, but I felt maybe the montage scene could have been a bit longer, and the kill scene at the end maybe a little more like emotional on the part of the two people being killed; I mean this as in like more tearful and stuff from Kelly and Aaron.
Good things: Camerawork was really well done and I didn’t see any faults whatsoever, the acting was great, to be honest, and the transcript seemed to be read in the right way, the background music was good for creating tension especially for when Carla got suspicious, and yeah, my only other improvement is that maybe when Patricia identified herself as Courtney, maybe the voice in Aaron’s head could acknowledge he wants to kill her. Oh yeah, the other thing I really liked was the social media bit at the beginning where like the screen was blurred for dramatic effect kinda when she was on social media. – Francis.

Conclusion

Overall, the feedback I have received was positive which is good because it has clarified to me that my final major project outcome has been successful in engaging the audience, portraying my camera work skills, having good editing skills and also choosing the best actors. However, there were a few negative pieces of feedback for example; Chloe’s feedback to which I didn’t quite understand but tried to think thoroughly about what she meant and my conclusion on it was that she didn’t like the music added and the dialogue was old-fashioned and those elements needed to be improved. Francis opinion was constructive as he mentioned about the monologue being longer and the ending scene being more emotional. If I could do this again, I would improve them. I’m proud of my work.

The Process

Editing Process

Editing my final major project

This video present to you some of the editing process. In this video include me choosing videos, arranging the shots on the timeline, using the script so that I mark off what I have done and organised the videos quicker and better.

I used both speed grade and premiere pro to colour the whole movie. I was quite difficult to use speed grade, however, I felt that I got the colours that I wanted and satisfied me when using this program, but, I think with more practice I will be able to do it better in the future. I thought still did well, after a while I switched back to premiere pro and used the tools on that software instead, making sure I saved my work.

Creating text

I experimented with Illustrator and Photoshop, using illustrator to create the bubble and then text to write the username and paint bucket to add the red. After that exported it to a PNG file and imported it into Photoshop and green background and exported it to my hard drive. Once I have exported it from  Photoshop and into imported it into Premiere Pro where I put the image onto the timeline and using the ultra key tool to get rid of the green and finally, I used the key-framing aspect to make the text show up at the right time. After that, I made a few other text messages using the same method and added them to the movie.

Sound Process

Here’s a screenshot of the sound process. I used tools such as the denoiser tool, the EQ tool etc. I think that the sound came out really well.

I think that it is well organised and after I made a few adjustments the sound was ready to use. It was quite a long process but I managed to get it done to the best of my ability. I didn’t use logic this time because I didn’t think I needed but looking back I could have used it on one part of the film. This sound process was knowledge and I learnt new things to do with fixing sound using Adobe Premiere Pro.
