Reflective Diary for Unit 11

17.9.15

Today, I was introduced to the Unit 11 brief. I evaluated my strengths, weaknesses and ambitions this afternoon. I have written what my strengths are and how they will benefit me in the future. Tomorrow, I will write my weaknesses and ambitions.

18.9.15

I wrote down what my weaknesses are, which is my lack of assertiveness and how I will outcome it. In addition to that, my ambitions. I think that this task has helped me establish aspects of myself tat I need to work on to progress as well as aspects that I am confidence in that can do better. It’s all about my self progression, which is good.

24.9.16

This is afternoon/evening I got the link to Ucas so that I can set up an account and fill in the online form. There are different videos that are supposed to help me fill it out to the best of my ability.

25.9.16 – 16.10.16

I read through a lot of university course descriptions such as University of Portsmouth, University of Middlesex, University of Winchester etc. However, the ones that I liked are Ravensbourne, Arts University Bournemouth, University of Westminster and University of Hertfordshire. Also, I created a new page called My 4 university choices + Why I chose them and added each of the university onto that page. Tomorrow I’m going to write-up why I like them.

17.10.15

There were many reasons why I chose those university because I only listed a few. I think that I summed up these 4 really well. Also, I want to go see what some of the other university are like so, I booked myself and mum to go to the different open days. I think that it will be beneficial to my decisions in choosing the right university.

18.10.15

Today, I had written about the financial aspects of university such as the different ways to pay for university, How I am going to pay for university and how much it will cost.

4.11.15 – 13.1.16

Today, I started to use the Ucas worksheet so, I can write bullet points to expand for my first draft. I think it went pretty well; I missed out some because, I was confused as to what write. therefore, next week I am going to go to the career advisor so that they can assist me.

The first draft of my personal is done. I went to the career advisors office for assistance on my personal statement because I am sort of confused as to what I’m supposed write and how I’m supposed to structure it. The career advisor Finn was very favourable because, after seeing him I understood what the personal statement is about and what I need to do so, I can complete it on time.

Today, I asked mark to look over my third draft. I think that the progression is steady and improving. There were improvement that I need to do such as what I need to write about myself and my hobbies etc. But, I think so far so good.

I have done my fifth draft and I think that it is going great. I have included previous experience filming experience to show dedication and my hobbies that present my social abilities etc. I need to get it checked over though so, I’m going to email Charlotte, who is another careers advisor that deals with personal statement to check it.

Charlotte had replied to my email and said it was good but there are some punctuation and grammar errors that I need to fix, she gave a tip and said that I should read it over a few times before writing and getting it looked over. Also, this draft is over the character limit because you are supposed to have 4000 characters and I have 4700 characters. So, I will reduce that.

I am on my seventh draft. I have fixed the errors to do with grammar and punctuation however, reducing the character count is quite difficult because I feel that everything that I have added is important. so, I asked Mark to read over it and help me reduce the character, we were successful in doing so. I think that I am near to completing my personal statement and sending it off.

I have completed my eighth draft and I think that this is the one that I am going to submit to Ucas. However, I had to make sure that to was okay to send, so when my dad comes to visit he can look over it.

Today, my dad came to visit and we looked over it together and we agreed that it was good enough to submit to Ucas. So, on Monday I will do so. Also, I made sure that I filled in the Ucas application correctly so, there are no errors such as ethnicity, finance etc.

I called my best friend Eleanor today. She looked over it and she gave it to her auntie/cousin, who deals with personal statements and we improved to further. This was my ninth and final draft and the ninth draft is what I will submit to UCAS tomorrow.

I have finally submitted my UCAS application to UCAS and now Mark has to reference and officially send it off. I paid 24 pounds to send it off. I created a new page showing the progression of my personal statement and how I managed to complete it.

14.1.16

Today, I got my official tracking number so, I can track my process on UCAS. My username is no longer needed because I have complete that part of UCAS (the application part). Then, I received a conformation email from Arts University Bournemouth thanking me for applying and that I should track my progression through their application portal which was great. I learnt about the application system of AUB.

15.1.16

I received a thank you for applying email from University of Hertfordshire, it also informed me about when I need to apply for student finance by, which is the 31st of May. This is great because, then I know ahead of time when to apply, so I don’t miss the deadline. They also gave e an ID number that I use for future reference. University of Westminster also, sent my a similar email with a thank you, username and password to their application portal and when to apply for student finance.

Later today, University of Westminster sent me a questionnaire that I have to fill out and that will decided whether or not I get into the university. They also gave me a deadline to meet (22nd January 2016).

18.1.16

I booked a winter building tour for Ravensbourne because, I missed the open day. I wanted to see the facilities and they have to offer me. On that is for Wednesday at 2pm.

19.1.16

Today, I got an email from Arts University Bournemouth and they informed about a pre-selection portfolio. That means that I have to create a 3 minute showreel that may get me to the interview stage or the application process at the University. I have 28 days to submit it but I’m going to make sure that I am going to submit it earlier.

20.1.16

The tour at Ravensbourne was amazing. The facilities are great, there’s enough space to study, social and achieve what you want to achieve and that is great. I think this is a superb university choice and I am glad I took this tour.

21.1.16-22.1.16

I have been focusing on other work as well as my questionnaire for University of Westminster. It was kind of rushed but, I occupied with other pieces of work. There were a few errors that Eryk noticed after looking at my questionnaire. I asked Eryk, who is my friend/classmate if he could look at it because, I know that he is very good with wording things better. So, helped me out and I’m grateful for that. After we looked over it. It was submitted on the day of the deadline and I was okay with it.

27.1.16 – 28.1.16

I have finished my 3 minute showreel and got feedback on it, it was very positive and that is always a good thing. Maria gave me advice, it was to write the name of the project and what did, in the corner of the screen. I learnt how to make a 3 minute showreel and that was great and used the feedback given productively. I need to make sure that I am absolutely happy with it so, that I can upload and submit it. James also gave me the 20 questions that university interviewer will ask.

29.1.16

Today I uploaded the 3 minute showreel to Vimeo and submitted the link to my 3 minute showreel on the application portal for Arts University Bournemouth. Now, I have to watch and see if I receive an interview or become unsuccessful. I think that this waiting is very hard but useful because, it teaches me to be patient.

2.2.16

I have received an email of Arts University Bournemouth saying that they liked my showreel and want me to come in for an interview. I am so happy and excited about it. I need to create a 5 minute showreel and an extensive portfolio. I have never done an extensive portfolio before however, on the website it tells you what you need to include in the portfolio and my interview is on the 12th of February at 2:00pm

Today I have an email notification of UCAS informing me to log in and check my progress. So, logged in and found out that I received a conditional offer from University of Hertfordshire. I’m happy that I have an offer, now I just have to hear from the other universities.

5.1.16 – 11.1.16

For the pass few days I have been doing my extensive portfolio trying to make it as good as possible, including all the necessary content to impress the university. Making sure that there are no spelling and grammar mistakes, the best of work is include such as work that shows off my creativity. After taking my final look at it before the interview I think that I did an excellent job. I asked Mark, who is my tutor, to look over it and he said it was great. The feedback was reassuring.

12.1.16

I had just finished my 5 minute showreel in the morning, I used Adobe Premiere Pro, got feedback and I was ready to go. Unfortunately, there were severe train delays to Bournemouth at London Waterloo. So, I had to phone up the university and reschedule which was very disappointing.

13.2.16

I got an email today from AUB telling when my rescheduled appointment will be and that is on the 25th February at the same time as before (2:00pm). Hopefully, the same thing doesn’t happen again. I’m going to be leaving earlier so, that I have more time to get there.

25.1.16

I had my interview at Arts University Bournemouth. I don’t think it went well because they didn’t ask to see my portfolio, they saw my 5 minute showreel first and then asked me some questions. For example, What movie have you seen that you really liked and if I had any questions for them, maybe I was supposed to ask them if they wanted to see my portfolio. However, it was only when I left the room I came up with the thought which is too late. They explained the waiting process and then I left.

26.2.16

Today, I got a message from UCAS telling to check my progression. I found out that I didn’t get into Arts University Bournemouth. I was sort of upset about but, then I spoke to my father who made me think more positive and that it wasn’t meant to be. I have a conditional from University of Hertfordshire and the other universities that I have chosen are still pending.

12.4.16

I have created a new page showing the end result of UCAS.
