Visual Project

Final Project idea

Storyline: A girl/lady is suffering from sleep deprivation, so her friends gives her a potion to help her fall asleep, which she got from a woman who had a stall in the market. At first the girl/lady is hesitate to take it from her friend but then she looks in the mirror or something and she takes it from friend her friend.

Her friend tells her only to take a little of it or something bad will happen because that is what the seller advises. Before she goes to bed she takes the potion, however, she doesn’t listen to her friend and downs the whole bottle, after that she gets into the bed and falls asleep.

In the first half of the short film the dream is going really well but the other half is nightmare central. At the end of the movie she wakes up, sweaty and breathing heavily.

The first individual that I had asked for feedback on this idea was a 19-year-old boy named Karim here’s his recorded feedback

Karim gives his opinion on how the dream (short film) should end. It was a great because it is an interesting cliffhanger, that I would happily go about doing. I might use it for my ending because I like the idea.

Another individual that I had asked for feedback on my idea (storyline) was 17-year-old girl named Maria here’s her recorded feedback

In this audio Maria talks about sleep deprivation and its effect on dreams. She has advised me to look it up because it may help with the effect of my dream story. Making my dream some what relatable.

So that’s what I did. After typing ‘How does sleep deprivation affect dreams’ into the search engine using Google, I had come across this website https://prezi.com/ovs8eneorzf5/does-sleep-deprivation-affect-dreams/which was linked to this website http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/strange-but-true-less-sleep-means-more-dreams/ and according to this website sleep deprivation does in fact affect your dreaming. This is because it sends you into REM sleep faster and for a longer period of time, it also makes dream more vivid and realistic, which ties my storyline (making the story make sense).

In addition, REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep is when you sleep and dream. It happens about 70 to 90 minutes after falling asleep. I had a look at a few more websites and they have written the same thing that sleep deprivation causes REM sleep, which also paralysis you when you sleep that you don’t act out what you are dreaming (http://health.howstuffworks.com/mental-health/sleep/basics/5-effects-of-sleep-deprivation.htm#page=3).

The sleep deprivation research will also help me at the start of the film because affects your mood, energy and motivation as well as the ability to maintain focus.

This Feedback is from my tutor Mark Caffoor

Mark’s feedback was very insightful, because he told me what I’m missing in the planning of my dreams project, which is good for me.

This is feedback from James Holder (tutor)

I have thought of some ideas for the happier side to the main character’s dream.

The first idea

  • After she has fallen asleep she opens her eyes. She is laying of the grass in a dress, hair done, make up done, this is shown using a close-up shot above. Then she gets up and she is happy and she starts running and spinning. Also, smelling flowers (maybe) and there are bubbles around her.

I had asks for feedback from peers:

One of the people who I had asked was a 17-year-old girl named tiara here’s her recorded feedback:

Tiara’s commentary is reassuring. I really like Tiara’s comment because it makes me feel more confident about the idea, that I will use for my final project.

Fields imply fortune happenings of a personal character; agreeable and pleasant friends, hospitality, and merry-making. – The Mystic Dream Book, 2500 Dreams Explained.

The second idea

  • Another part would be her and crush having a nice time (getting along), as if they are in a relationship feeding each other food (chips).

FeedBack

It seems like really cute because the fact that their feeding each other means that they have to be really close and comfortable around each other. – Michael

Michael’s opinion on the scene is exactly what I am going for (a romantic atmosphere).

I had an idea that will turn good to bad:

I idea was that when she is on a date with her crush having a nice time. His ex girlfriend can come in and steal him away from her, whether that’s through a kiss or a hug and she is sitting right there. She is frozen in shock whilst everything is going on around her, then she closes her eyes.

FeedBack

I think the concept is good, I like that she can’t change things happening around her and that when she’s frozen in shock time goes by. – Fahima

I have thought of some ideas for the darker sides to the main character’s dream, creating a montage.

The first idea

  • A puppeteer is controlling her, her mouth is no longer there and he is making her walk. Whilst people shout negative things at her such as stupid, loner, ugly. Then some writes Loser on her forehead, then she closes her eyes saying “wake up wake up”.

FeedBack

I think it’s a really good concept because sounds emotional and I think if your main character ( the actor) projects that emotion through their acting then the scene will be perfect. – Bradley

The second idea

  • She is trapped in her eye and she is knocking on the glass but she can’t get out. so runs and is about to go through it, but the scene fades.

The main character being trapped in your own eye was inspired by a picture I had found on Google. This picture was very interesting and unusual, which is why I think I enjoy looking at it and why I want to incorporate it into my final project.

This piece of feedback is good because it helps me understand think about the thought behind my ideas. The positive feedback given by Aisha is very comforting and that I am on the right path with my project.

Scene Testing

This is a test of what the scene will look like.

This voice recording inform me that I’m doing a good job with the idea I have come up with. I like how he had said that my idea of the eye is original, which is good because originality is good.

The third idea

  • She is suddenly falling down and down, whilst she falling, she’s screaming and then wakes up.

To dream that you fall from a height is a sign of misfortune, the longer the distance you fall, the greater will be the coming trouble. The Mystic Dream Book, 2500 Dreams Explained

I think that it is a good scene, because, I like that it sounds very dramatic. – Yasmine

The feedback I have received is good, because I am going for a dramatic and sympathising feel to the scene.

Ending

  • When she wakes up, she thinks she’s awake, however, there is an indicator that she is still dreaming.

FeedBack

I think that is good, I like the fact that she thinks she is awake but she is not. It is a good twist. – Laura

The scene is okay the like the concept of the ending and I think it will make the scene enjoyable to watch. Matthew

The positive feedback given by my friends have inspired me to proceed with the ideas that I have.
