This piece of research will help me figure out what infatuation is about through poetry and quotes. Theses were found on the internet.

False Love

False Love isn’t love when you look at her and wish you were holding her in your arms,
it’s infatuation, true love is rare and takes time to develop,
staring at her day in day out won’t make her love you,
it will make her love someone else

Beware of the false love around us
It’s a definite killer
True love is the ultimate healer
So don’t succumb to infatuation
Nothing but false love and pain
Search for your soul and find true love
True happiness found within

I think that this is poem a good poem because it explains infatuation in a poetic way, it is expressive and I believe and agree with some of the things mentioned in this poem, for example, True love is the ultimate healer, True happiness is found within, beware of love around us its definite killer. I agree with the quote “beware of love around us. It’s definite killer because I have experienced personally of false love and seen friends go through it such as my friend who liked this boy and he pretended to like her when in fact he had a girlfriend all along. I agree that true happiness is found within because if you love yourself nothing else matters, no criticism will put you down and make you feel insecure I think that will be very useful to my project, maybe I can manipulate my character, maybe they might not have self-love will affect them somehow, I’m not sure yet but it makes him ponder. I agree with most of the sentences in this poem however, the only thing that I disagree with is ‘staring at her day in say out won’t make her love you it will make her’ because I think depends on who is the person is and how they are staring at you. I think that if a 40 year old is staring at a 17 year old day in and day out then that’s creepy but if your crush stared at you everyday (day in and day out) I don’t think the person would love someone else.

Ignorant Obsession

You can’t have what you want
For you want it too much;
Your obsession destroys
Everything that you touch.

It’s like you squeeze so tight
Until he cannot breathe;
Then he must run or die,
As you refuse relief.

It is blatant nature;
Obvious as you go
Bathe in your ignorance
And put on the same show.

The tears,  “I don’t know why”
But we tell you each time:
You must love at distance,
Tone down your persistence
And love him enough so
He will not want to go.

I think that this poem is a beautiful poem. It tells the disadvantages of loving too much, this is clearly hinting at infatuation as it mentions the feeling of being obsessed and what type of situation that a person might be when they have these feelings.

I think that this poem shows that the feelings that they are feeling (like obsession and infatuation) is unhealthy and it might not be safe. This also may be showing that the feeling of love may be too strong that it does not exist anymore as it turned to something else. This might be suggesting that people around the person is telling him/her to calm down their feelings, to have more healthy feelings towards their obsession so that their obsession won’t leave due to the excess of love that the other person is showing towards them.

This poem benefits my project because the poem gave an outsider’s point of view on infatuation and how people recognised that the emotions they are feeling is unhealthy.I could develop one of my characters to have an obsession that is unhealthy and overwhelming that something happens to them. Maybe their characteristics could change within them whenever their love interest is around.

Quotes

“He did not care if she was heartless, vicious and vulgar, stupid and grasping, he loved her. He would rather have misery with one than happiness with the other.”W. Somerset Maugham, Of Human Bondage

I really like this quote because I agree with it. I have seen a film that is based a true story called Murdered by my Boyfriend that displayed the characteristics mentioned in this quote along with a video on Facebook about a girl being hit by her boyfriend and how justifies it. I think that there is no justification for that and this quote has given me a bit more an insight as to how my characters will behave which is great.

“I desire to be with you. I miss you. I feel lonely when I can’t see you. I am obsessed with you, fascinated by you, infatuated with you. I hunger for your taste, your smell, the feel of your soul touching mine.”Jack Llawayllynn, Indulgence

I think that obsession and infatuated as quite similar if not the same because when your obsessed it means you have a great desired for someone or something. I think that I agree with this quote because it when you’re in love with someone you always want to be with them and you have that connection with them. This quote has helped me because it has made me think about the five senses (touch, smell, taste, sight and hearing) but more specifically the touch, taste and smell aspect. Maybe I can use that to my advance when doing my final major project film, my character smells the admired’s clothes or hear. It is something to think about.

“When you develop an infatuation for someone you always find a reason to believe that this is exactly the person for you. It doesn’t need to be a good reason. Taking photographs of the night sky, for example. Now, in the long run, that’s just the kind of dumb, irritating habit that would cause you to split up. But in the haze of infatuation, it’s just what you’ve been searching for all these years.” ― Alex Garland, The Beach

I think that the first sentence of this paragraph is great “When you develop an infatuation for someone you always find a reason to believe that this is exactly the person for you.” This piece of the quote is prefect because I agree with it and I have seen some situations that display this mindset and I think that it has sparked something in me that will help my project.
